99 Bananas

99bananas.jpg

Maybe it’s time to change the blog name again. A lot of people are arriving here expecting banana schnapps only to be disappointed. Banana is a curious flavour for alcohol of any variety. Not having tried this particular drink I should reserve judgement but banana flavour brings back memories of the days when I would drink anything and not be a bit fussy about it. Banana liqueur was a sickly sweet drink that did have a jollifying effect if one could suffer the flavour. I indulged a few times while living in Greece but never quite got to like the banananess.

I wonder what this stuff is like. Being schnapps, I would imagine it’s a lot less syrupy than banana liqueur. It would seem that the ‘99′ refers to the proof rather than the number of bananas required to make a bottle of it. They also make 99 Apples, 99 Blackberries and 99 Oranges. You can find out more about it at 99 schnapps website. You have to be over 21 to view it or so it says. I really don’t see the point in age restrictions on an information site. It’s not like anyone can drink it online.

Weddings & Funerals

In recent years I seem to be attending more funerals than weddings which comes with age. All the elders of the tribe are popping off at the rate of one per year. It makes you realise that your own life isn’t getting any longer. Last year, weddings and funerals were on an even keel. This year the weddings are ahead by 2-0. It’s always nice when nobody dies even if it is an excuse for what’s left of the family to get together and see them off, it’s much better that they’re alive and well and sitting in a corner moaning about their aches and pains.

Fridays wedding was an early start. Disaster struck almost immediately when leaving home. As I drove slowly over the cattle grid, with each bounce a button popped on my top so I had to turn around and go sew myself into it to avoid any embarrassment later on. Of course they had made the button holes too big, it was nothing to do with me being too fat voluptuous! When I arrived at my Dad’s house he was sitting in the car impatiently revving the engine.

The wedding was the nicest I have ever been to. The service was in St Patricks in Dungannon and the reception at the Manor House Hotel on Lower Lough Erne. It was a bit of a jaunt between the two but they had allowed plenty of time. Beautiful scenery. I’ll have to get down that way more often. (The last time I was through Augher Clougher Fivemiletown was in a milk tanker. My ex’s notion of a big day out was a run in an articulated lorry… although the views en route were splendid from such great heights.)

So another 2nd cousin is getting married in August. I’m sure it’ll be a less formal do but no less enjoyable. I’ll fix the buttons before that one.

The favatars plugin just refuses to work with this version of Wordpress. Upgrading immediately has it’s drawbacks.

Creeping Lethargy

After two weeks of unplanned holidays and not knowing what to do with myself, now that the materials have arrived to carry on working as normal, I have found a lethargic rut to sink into and no amount of self flagellation seems to be inspiring me to work. I have a wedding to attend in Dungannon on Friday so that only leaves two days to get done what should have been done a fortnight ago and yet I’m sitting here drinking coffee and searching ebay for cheap kitchens via typobay. I found one in Hampshire with no reserve and no bids starting at 99p. It’s a shame there’s so much water between there and here.

Said wedding requires a new outfit. I doubt if they’d appreciate me turning up in hiking sandals, cut off jeans and a Del Monte “Say yes to the best” t-shirt. I was given a box of Del Monte t-shirts a number of years ago to dispose of (ie. in a skip) and being the hoarder that I am, have been wearing them ever since. My wardrobe may resemble a 1980’s rack at an Oxfam charity shop but most of the time it’s adequate to cover my modesty. Tomorrow, I need to go buy a wedding present. That leaves today to get the weeks work done so I better do it if I want to eat at the weekend. I wonder if they’ll do doggy bags at the reception.

Stats

It’s amusing what brings people here…. or at least I find it interesting, so for anyone who shares my own geeky intrigue with stats, I’ve added some to the sidebar.
