Burn Baby Burn

[thumb:537:l]This was too much of a bargain to not buy it. It isn’t as pretty as the one I wanted but £80 cheaper and twice the heating output. It should be delivered in a week or so. The vendors post purchase e-mail was really reassuring…

Please inspect your goods at delivery. Your goods are FRAGILE. Yes, that is correct Cast Iron is FRAGILE. By the time your goods reach you they will have been on and off three trucks, driven by neandrathol man and handled by cavemen. Your goods could have been dropped from at least a meter in height or rammed through with a forklift.

YOU WILL BE ASKED BY THE COURIER TO SIGN FOR THEM. WHAT YOU ARE SIGNING CANCELS YOUR REPLACEMENT INSURANCE AND STATES THAT YOU RECIEVED THEM IN GOOD ORDER. Remember these goods belong to YOU, not the courier. Tak nae merde.

Now to find a bulk supplier for logs and look forward to a winter wandering around the house in me skimpies (provided those neanderthal truckers don’t spoil it all).

It’s for inside. Central heating is fine if it’s affordable. Have you seen the price of oil? A stove inside wastes less energy than a central heating boiler outside… not to mention the price of oil. Electricity is also extortionate as a heating source. Did I mention the price of oil?? :)

Ha Ha Ha!
Glad you got such a bargain.
I’m still trying to find a replacement top for this pot-bellied stove here. The man who had it before must’ve had it roaring with coal or something as it cracked. They say cast iron will do that if it’s not “seasoned”, which is acclimated to heat stress gradually.

It’s good you know how it goes upon delivery. Make ‘em wait. Sip your tea whilst unpacking it.
Smart woman!

Uh..have you some sort of two-wheeled dolly for getting it into the house…or just more cavemen? Dinnae hurt ur back!

Herman you crazy dutchman! :D

idylwild: Delivery is by tail lift truck and pallet barrow so I’m hoping they should be able to wheel it right into the living room or at least get it to the front door. I’ll wrestle it the rest of the way myself if need be. It’s amazing what you can do with a cardboard sleigh and a little determination. Yep cast iron has to be seasoned…. small fires built up gradually for about a week should do it. The higher capacity on this stove should mean that once seasoned, the cast will take a lot more heat without it doing any damage, not necessarily that it’ll throw out 8.3kw when burning a couple of twigs.

We’ve got a similar stove. Now we can’t go for a walk in the woods without Bert salivating over the fallen timber.

And rightly so, sure it’d just lie there and rot otherwise.

We’ll be glad to export some of this tropical heat from over here to there for free if it eases the temperature a bit over here.
