Is that like a trestle table? (Top, with two solid ends connected by a rail underneath.) I made a woodworker's bench with throwaway scraps from the lumber mill. I just laminated six pieces at a time and ran the entire slab through a monster-sized industrial planer after conditioning a few weeks. Heavy as a slab of granite! (Hard maple.) I wanted it to keep logs in without piling them up beside the stove. A real monks bench has storage under the seat and the back converts to a table.
